Who Represents the Best Bet in the Champion Hurdle After Lossiemouth and Sir Gino's Big Wins?

The Champion Hurdle picture has shifted dramatically after Lossiemouth and Sir Gino delivered Grade 1 victories over the weekend, solidifying their credentials for Cheltenham. With Constitution Hill facing fitness concerns and reigning champion State Man suffering a shock defeat to Brighterdaysahead in the Morgiana Hurdle, the door appears wide open for a new star to claim the crown. But where does the best value lie in this exciting division?

“Lossiemouth’s odds feel overhyped”

By Matt Butler, Deputy News Editor

While Lossiemouth’s impressive win in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse has made her the 6-4 favorite, her current price seems overly generous. Yes, she was visually striking, but the race turned into a sprint due to a pedestrian pace. Her rivals, all proven stayers over three miles, seemed to play into her hands.

Lossiemouth will benefit from a 7lb allowance in the Champion Hurdle, but I’m not sold on the hype just yet. For me, Sir Gino delivered a more convincing performance at Newcastle, despite a slightly weaker finish.

As for State Man, while consistent, he’s yet to beat a truly top-class rival at their peak, and questions remain over his ability to shine under the spotlight. Constitution Hill, if fully fit, is still the class act of the division. At 9-2, he’s the bet I’d make, even with uncertainties about his readiness.

“Sir Gino has the edge”

By Matt Rennie, Reporter

If all the top contenders line up at Cheltenham, we’re in for a sensational Champion Hurdle. But after witnessing Sir Gino’s scintillating performance in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle, I’m happy to side with him.

Lossiemouth impressed in the Hatton’s Grace, but at her current odds, I’d rather look elsewhere. Sir Gino’s dominance at Newcastle was a bold statement, particularly for a four-year-old, who is often expected to struggle after their juvenile season. Instead, he blew away the field with ease, showing incredible potential.

While Constitution Hill at his best is unbeatable, his fitness concerns make Sir Gino a value bet, especially given his upward trajectory.
